Hello friends,

Independence Day in July is traditionally when we celebrate our country’s freedom, and this year I had some rambling thoughts about freedom. We have been blessed to have more freedoms than most citizens in the world. One of those freedoms has been the right to worship.

We all know 2020 threw a lot at us, and for the first time, we were unable to meet at our churches. Thank the Lord, that ended! When we watched church online I got so distracted by housework and pets climbing on me and electronics. I couldn’t concentrate. It was never the same for me as singing praise songs with other Christians in the room.

I read a book a few years ago called The Insanity of God by Nik Ripkin. There was a powerful quote in this book from a Christian who lived in a country where Christians are persecuted. They were not allowed to meet to worship. If they did, they risked jail and beatings. The quote was:

“Don’t ever give up in freedom what we would never have given up in persecution!”

That statement stuck with me and spurs me on to continue participating in the freedom to worship with my local sisters and brothers in Christ.

Oh, speaking of freedom, I saw the movie Sound of Freedom last week. Y’all, I researched the topic of human trafficking for my novel Tackling the Fields. It was tough researching it, and I’m not going to lie, watching this movie was even harder. But I do think it’s important for people to know what’s going on if you get a chance to see it.

Last but not least, I have a free book on Amazon being advertised on Bookbub today (offer ends July 23). You can get a copy if you haven’t read The Art of Rivers. If you’ve read it, and enjoyed it, I’d be so happy if you would tell a friend. 🙂

This story actually deals with becoming free from addiction.

(If you don’t use Bookbub, which is a great way to find sales, you can get it on Amazon.)

I hope the rest of July is good for you! It is hot here in Mississippi! Send me your thoughts on freedom!

Blessings,

Janet
